hey everybody welcome to the Apple watch user guide and tutorial this is part 2. before where we talk about how to customize the Apple watch face. choose your desired complications and personalize a color scheme of your Apple watch face. stay tuned to the end to learn more about what we cover in other parts.
so let’s start by learning how to customize your Apple watch face. there’s two ways to do this, you can do this on your iPhone using the Apple watch app or directly on the Apple watch itself. to do this on the Apple watch, just force touch your Apple watch face and this will bring you into a mode where you can not only adjust the details of your current watch face but you can also switch to other watch faces you have used previously, or even choose a new one. to choose a new watch face scroll right and tap the big plus button, as labeled with new above it. this will bring up a list of all the various watch faces that are available. a scroll through rhythm you can either use the digital crown or swipe up or down with your finger on the screen. setting up a new watch face using this method I sometimes find difficult, especially if you’re looking at a watch face with many complications.
a second way to add new watch faces as noted before, is by using the watch app on your iPhone. run the watch app and choose the face gallery tab. this will let you look through all of the available watch faces on your iPhone, which I think lets you see them better. there are so many to choose from you can choose one that shows your activity rings some cool cartoon characters or even a watch face that’s more like a traditional watch. I personally like using a lot of complications, so I found the modular watch face best meets my needs. but take your time and look through them maybe even try a number of them out. once you find one you’d like to try you can tap it to bring up the options to customize that watch face. for the modular face I chose you can choose the color and assign the various complications that are available for the complication spaces on the watch face. you’ll notice on this face that the middle complication is a large utilitarian complication which can provide you with some limited in-app data on your watch face, like the weather stock markets or even workout data. my favorite for this complication space is there now playing at that shows you the details about what music is currently playing on your iPhone or Apple watch. you can just tap the complication to run the now playing app to control the music playback from your iPhone, which is especially handy if you’re using wireless headphones like ear pods.
talk about this feature more in depth in my video air polish with watch OS 4. I’ve also found this complication works when watching video through VLC on your iPhone. the other complication spaces on this watch face are icons that are shortcuts to the Associated apps. once you set up the watch face as you like you can then press the Add button to add the watch face to your Apple watch. now you can force touch your Apple watch face and scroll through the various watch faces you add it from your iPhone. if you like to customize the watch face from your Apple watch this force pressed watch face and press the customize button. you can use a digital crown to scroll through the options for each of the selected watch face sections. and scroll left and right with your finger on the screen to change the section of the given watch face to customize. when you’ve made the desired changes just force press the screen and tap the desired watch face to go back to normal.
another watch face option that’s relatively new with iOS 11 and watch us for is creating a new watch face from any pictures on your iPhone. you can start this process by using the share sheet when viewing a picture on your iPhone. in this example I’m in the Photos app and found a picture I’d like to use. now you press the share button and choose the create watch face option. you’ll be presented with two watch face options either the photos watch face or kaleidoscope watch face. once you make your selection the create watch face screen will pop up to let you customize the watch face as you like. when you’re happy with it just press the Add button. now that should be the new face on your Apple watch. and don’t forget if you don’t like it or grow tired of it, you can force press the watch face to change faces. if you find you end up having too many faces to choose from and would like to get rid of some you can simply swipe up in the watch face switcher and press remove to delete that watch face. you can also delete watch faces from the watch app on your iPhone. in the my watch tab under the my faces section just tap edit and then press the red circle beside the watch face you want to delete and then confirm by pressing remove, press the done button when finished.
