2019 golf r, ENGINE INTERIOR
The coming Golf will get a sporty new look, with pinched lights and a larger grille on the lower section of the front bumper, but the R model will pump things up quite a bit and look far more aggressive. It’ll get a smattering of carbon fiber pieces to mark it out as the alpha Golf, as well as a huge front grille to cool the engine and four oval exhausts sitting either side of a functional rear diffuser.
In the future, though, there are rumors of a fully electric Golf R, using some of the technology from VW’s bonkers Pikes Peak-conquering machine, shown above. That car produces 670hp by having an electric motor attached to each wheel, paving the way for an even faster, yet eerily silent, range-topping Golf.
Interior spy shots of the mk8 Golf, set to be released in 2019, show that the digital driver’s display should come fitted to all but entry-level models. As a result, expect the R to come with this feature as standard, where it’ll show a raft of driving, navigation and media-playback info.
